Toolbox
Design of the Toolbox
The toolbox contains four categories of reflection tools:
-
Reflection tools using outside sources to stimulate reflection (e.g. formal descriptions of teacher quality like national teacher standards; research publications on effective teaching and learning, etc.);
-
Reflection tools using observations of classroom practice (e.g. through video recordings of class room practices);
-
Reflection tools using shared experiences (e.g. through reflection on ‘your most remarkable teacher’ and diary writing and the exchange of these reflections);
-
Reflection tools using creative and expressive activities (e.g. role plays to understand concerns and perspectives of other stakeholders, drawings, use of metaphors, etc.).
All tools stimulate reflection on teacher quality (‘what is teacher quality’) and on the identification of indicators of teacher quality (‘how to observe teacher quality’). Through the variety of tools different ways and styles of learning will be stimulated: investigation, analysis, exploration, evaluation, identification, creative expression.
The Toolbox overview shows an overview of the developed tools, their characteristics and the conditions for their use.
In the toolbox descriptions the main characteristics of each tool are presented, using a fixed format: goals, targetgroup, summary, methodology, variations, background/theory, conditions, materials, strengths & weaknesses, appendix.
Toolsets and translations
The reflection tools are translated in a variety of languages.
The full sets are available as WORD and PDF documents.
The individual tools are available in both in WORD and PDF (see the sections in the menu at the left).

Intensive course
The tools have been tested in a four day intensive course with an international audience of teachers and teacher educators. If you want to use the tools in such a intensive way, the course design can be helpful.
