Council conclusions on teacher education in Europe

In November 2007 the ministers of education in the European member states have published their conclusions and ambitions concerning teacher education in their national systems.
They emphasize the importance of teacher education and the need for a coherent and co-ordinated system of initial teacher education, induction and in service teacher education. They also intend to higher the level of qualification for teachers.
The council conclusions are based on the communication from the European Commission from August 2007 titled 'Improving the Quality of Teacher Education'.
